Hello, my name is Olivia Cabreza. I am a nursing student at Alverno College and I am currently enrolled in a microbiology course. According to Case, Funke, and Tortura, microbes are minute living things that individually are usually too small to be seen with the unaided eye (2013, p. 2). The group of microbes, or microorganisms, include bacteria, fungi, protozoa, algae, and viruses (Case et al., 2013, p. 2). I am creating this blog to inform you about the relationship between microbiology and the commonly known virus, influenza, otherwise known as the flu. Although several individuals are either well aware of this virus or have experienced it themselves, it is possible that many do not know the main cause of influenza itself. The goal of this blog is to give you an in-depth look to this mild to severe illness.
